Wrestling Center construction is launched in Ufa
On August 23, the Acting Head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov launched construction of the country's largest wrestling center in Ufa. Together with three-time Olympic champion, deputy of the State Duma of Russia Alexander Karelin and President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili, the head of the region laid a time capsule at the foundation of the building with an address to future generations.
Radiy Khabirov said that for many years he wanted to build the Wrestling Palace as a tribute to the sport and great coaches who brought up remarkable athletes.
The International Wrestling Center with an area of 29 thousand square meters will include a universal sports and concert hall for 3,400 spectators, 19 wrestling areas, a youth sports school, a hotel, a conference hall, a medical rehabilitation center, and other auxiliary facilities. Completion is scheduled for 2021.
– Design works took almost a year. We wanted it to be useful for the Russian Wrestling Federation in general so that events of the highest level could be held here, – said Radiy Khabirov. – It will accommodate not only Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling but also sambo, judo, national wrestling kuresh. There will be enough space for everyone. The future of our republic will be created here.
The head of the region also said that currently, together with the Russian Wrestling Federation, the issue of hosting a world championship among juniors in Greco-Roman, freestyle and women's wrestling in Ufa in 2021 was under consideration.
