Safin and Ahmathuzin are the only Bashkiria medalists at Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro
The 31st Summer Olympic Games-2016 completed in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). For 16 days, 306 sets of medals were competed for. The Russian national team became the fourth in the team standings with 19 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze medals.
The US team won (46-37-38), the British were the second (27-23-27), the Chinese - the third (26-18-26).
Bashkortostan was represented by four athletes. Foil fencers showed brilliant performance: Timur Safin won bronze in the individual competition and a gold medal in the team together with Arthur Ahmathuzin.
Ilya Pervukhin managed to take only the fifth place in the canoe-two 1000 m race.
Also, the Russian men's national volleyball team with Alexander Volkov from VC Ural (Ufa) failed to win medals. The team lost a match for the bronze to Americans having conceded by sets — 2: 3.
Gulnaz Gubaidulina, the trainee of the Bashkir modern pentathlon school took the 15th place in the competitive program.
