Representatives of Bashkiria went to World Folkloriad in Mexico
The official delegation of Bashkortostan went to the 5th World Folkloriad in Mexico. The cultural event is held in the city of Zacatecas from July 28 to August 14. The festival will be attended by over two thousand people from 70 countries.
According to the Government of the republic, the delegation is headed by the Deputy Prime Minister Salavat Sagitov. It consists of the State Academic Folk Dance Ensemble named after Faizi Gaskarov, "Argymak" ethno-rock band and the vocalist of the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre Gulnara Valeeva. They will perform at major venues of the festival and will present the cultural heritage of the Bashkir people to visitors and participants of the Folkloriad.
Bashkortostan received the right to host the event in 2020. This decision was announced in 2015 as part of the 45th World Congress and General Assembly of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Traditional Arts (CIOFF), which took place in the city of Arequipa (Peru).
The Folkloriad is the largest cultural event in the folk art, which is supported by the International Union of folklore festivals under the auspices of UNESCO. The Folkloriad for the first time was held in 1996 in the Netherlands, the second time — in 2000 in Japan. Hungary became the third venue of the Folkloriad. In 2012 the Fourth World Folkloriad CIOFF took place in South Korea.
